There are numerous local gatherings throughout the year for the enjoyment of the local community and travelers to Lewistown:

The 2010 Central Montana Fair runs July 28th through July 30th.  Country western singer Terri Clark is the featured entertainer this year.  See the fair website at www.centralmontanafair.com for the entire entertainment schedule and ticket information.  The Yogo Inn is a proud supporter of the fair!

Visitors can enjoy several self guided walking tours of Lewistown's three districts designated by the National Register of Historic Places including the Silk Stocking District which features some of the areas oldest and most graceful turn-of-the-century homes.  Access to the Lewistown trail system is adjacent to the hotel property.  Recreational Rentals LLC has several different styles of bikes to rent including electric-assist bikes if you want to try the hilly areas.  Check out their website at www.recreationalrentalsllc.com

  The annual Chokecherry Festival held the first weekend after Labor Day with many enjoyable activities for the whole family. In addition to the many arts and crafts booth lining Main Street, there is entertainment of various types including the now famous pit spitting contest on Saturday on Main Street. The Yogo Inn is proud to host the Chokecherry Stomp (dance) this year on Friday, September 10th in Sapphire Ballroom.  On Sunday, enjoyment continues with the road from Hobson to Utica lined with miles of hay bale sculptures. Vote for your favorite and end the day with more arts and crafts in Utica and a barbeque and awards ceremony.

 
Cowboy Poetry Gathering & Western Music Rendezvous - 2010 is the Silver Anniversary
of this four day celebration!  Starts Thursday, August 12 and continues through Sunday, August 15th.  Montana Cowboy Poetry is headquartered at the Yogo Inn!  Thursday night Welcome BBQ is at the Yogo & tickets are still available!  Friday night features a Jam n' Dance in the Sapphire Ballroom at the Yogo.  Poetry and music sessions run throughout the day Friday.  FREE Western Art and Gear Show is Friday, Saturday & Sunday - located at the Yogo.  Red Steagall headlines at the Saturday night show!  Don't forget the Young Cowboy Poet contest winners will be announced at the night show this year!  Night show tickets can be purchased at the hotel - all other tickets including the BBQ, VIP & Choice Reserved are available at the Lewistown Chamber of Commerce.  Much more information, registration and detailed schedule is available on the Cowboy Poetry official website: www.montanacowboypoetrygathering.com





Fishing & Hunting:

fly fishingBig Spring Creek, a blue ribbon trout stream, is also one of the best trout streams in all of Montana, with an added bonus; it can be fished all year around! Central Montana’s rivers, streams and ponds offer a variety of fishing, from rainbow, brook and brown trout to the mysterious, prehistoric paddlefish.

And the Lewistown area is famous for great hunting with hunters coming from all over the world in search of elk, mule and whitetail deer, pronghorn antelope, waterfowl pheasant and turkeys. Thousands of people gather each year to observe the annual elk migration and see bison at close range.

Golf:

Golf is a must do in Lewistown. Lewistown’s two golf courses have perhaps the most beautiful scenery in the state. Pine Meadows tee times may be arranged by calling 406-538-5885. the Judith Shadows Golf Course, rated the best small course in the state, can be reached at 406-538-6062.

Water:

Lewistown enjoys some of the purest water in the country thanks to Big Spring Creek which flows through the area. The city’s water comes from this fresh water spring which is located in the foothills of Snowy Mountain just to the south. Our water is rated by the EPA Standards as the finest quality water found in the United States.
